I converted to a Mac

Yes yes, I gave in, I purchased my third Apple product, but this time it was slightly bigger then my previous two purchases a 16GB iPod Touch an headphones. This time it was around 8 times the price of the iPod, I decided to pick up a 27″ iMac.

Ever since I was interested in design I have always been told Apple Macs are the way to go, but I could never justify spending that amount of money on something my Dell 5150c computer could *just about* do. I upgraded the RAM to a massive 2GB :S and I hooked up dual 20inch wide screens as my single 17inch was a little small.

My old Set up

It was fine for what I was doing that was until I started using a iMac at my new job, I was slightly worried about shortcuts and getting used to the OS but after a day I was already going home to my PC and pressing alt+C instead of ctrl+C. I don’t think anyone can use a iMac with a Crystal clear LED screen, 4GB ram, dual core, sleek design etc etc and go pack to a PC, a mac is really a joy to use. I loved that it is silent, no noise from it at all, that was really a massive thing for me pushing towards getting a mac at home, my parents always commented on the noise which came from my PC at night, it sounded like a hair dryer on full. So they were pretty happy about my purchase.

Its been two weeks with my iMac at home now and it think its ready to use as my main computer (don’t let this put you off, I had the mac up and running with internet within matter of minutes), I had a hard time moving from my PC to Mac mainly because I had a few projects on the go and really wasn’t a good idea seeing as all my resources(emails, fonts etc) were on the PC, also our internet was down for a few days so I waited. Now all the file transfers are done and I have found suitable apps to handle twitter(tweet deck) and MSN(adium) its all go.

Here’s a few images of what you get for your money.

The box weighed a tonne way to much for my little arms to carry from the store to the car. So my brother helped me out. Which was good of him.

Look no wires sweet huh? Well the batteries in the mouse last around 3 weeks of continuous use, but the keyboard is pretty long lasting. Takes a while to get used to the smaller keyboard, looks good but it just doesnt seem right, thats why I got a full sized one as well at a discount just to be on the safe side.

Very well protected is what I like to see, especially when you spend that amount of money.

This is the last of the two covered which came on the iMac

Ignore the mess, this is the outcome, my PC is still in the corner, just waiting on a wall bracket for that, I also picked up a monitor cable for the iMac to hook my other 20″ monitor for more screen space, not sure if i need that yet as It will probably just has tweet deck on it. I have 1.32 TB of HD behind the iMac so time machine will have plenty of memory. Need to find space for my Wacom tablet now.

It is hard to talk about if this is good, nonetheless only time will tell, as with most superb design.
