Pepsi Rebrand.

Pepsi Rebranded costing $1.2bn…was it worth it?
They have made a slight change to the iconic logo. The first logo was designed in 1905 and since then it has been evolving. Most people would recognise the blue red with a white wave, but now you will be seeing a “smile” inside the red and blue circle. US will be seeing the new design in shops early 2009.

In October 2008, Pepsi announced they would be redesigning its logo and re-branding many of its products by early 2009. In 2009, Pepsi, Diet Pepsi and Pepsi Max began using all lower-case fonts for name brands, Mountain Dew has been rebranded as “Mtn Dew”, and Diet Pepsi Max was re-branded as Pepsi Max. The brand’s blue and red globe trademark became a series of “smiles,” with the central white band arcing at different angles depending on the product. The new imagery started to be used. In the case of Pepsi, the logo has the medium-sized “smile”, while the new lower-case font is used. Even the flavors ‘Wild Cherry, Lime and Vanilla’ will acquire this design. As of January 2009, Pepsi’s newer logos have only been adopted in the United States.

Will this $1.2bn make the drink taste better?….no it wont. If they are after boosting sales maybe they should do something more extreme then slightly tweak the logo. Which most people wont even notice. Pepsi are always doing something new with the packaging, they redesigned the cans for the 14th time in 2007! How many can designs can you remember which actually made you want to buy the drink?

Only time will tell if this works…
